What is a giclee?
A giclee (pronounced "jee-clay") is a French word meaning "sprayed ink". It refers to a technology brought forth by a machine called the Iris. A giclee is a high resolution digital print recognized as a fine art print, like lithographs and serigraphs. giclee is considered one of the best techniques for reproducing original works of art. giclee prints look and feel like original art. Jill's new giclees are printed with archival ink on fine art paper.
About limited editions
This concept is basic to the world of art. It is the "limited edition" which permits printmakers and collectors to agree upon what is a fine art print and what is a reproduction, such as poster. A limited edition is defined as a collectable quality reproduction of an original work that is individually signed and numbered (i.e. 5/300) by the artist. Once the edition is sold out (i.e. 300), no more limited edition prints of that image are produced making the print valuable for resale or the "secondary market."
